I may have an Xbox, but never saw the great appeal in Halo that everybody else seems to. Several of my friends love the series, but that may have something to do with the fact that they loved the earlier games. I'm sure that if TimeSplitters were to become as big a series, I would love it while many of the others would not.
The online play is tainted by people on there constantly hurling abuse whenever they kill you, and all the little kids hurling off the word 'fagg*t' like homophobic machine guns, when half of them don't even know what it means.
I don't think I'll be getting Reach. I got Halo 3 on two occasions, both times I traded it in. I borrowed Halo Wars from a friend, but got annoyed that it cheated me out of an achievement or two. I haven't played any 2nd person tactical games in a long while, anyway.
I also borrowed Halo: ODST from the same person. It was supposed to be better due to you not being an ultimate super-soldier, and just a marine. It still had the exact same feel. I liked a few of the weapons, but the game just left me with a bland feel.
As such, I don't think I'll be getting Reach. I've heard only good things about it, but that means nothing to me. All the Halo games get good reviews, that doesn't mean I'll like them. Once again, i think I'll borrow this off a friend, and see if I like it. If I do, I might pick it up when it gets cheap.

Halo is one of the top shooters out there not because of the publicity but because its a good game the campaigns are always enjoyable and with co-op the experience is even more so multiplayer can be a drag if your playing with people you dont like but that can be changed by muting them or being in a private party the multiplayer has many different game modes and has millions of possibilities with forge mode and forge world it also has perks like armor customization and other unlock-able content the game sells well and is popular because it is made very well the only time i dont enjoy it is when im playing with strangers but thats what friends are for so add some people up and give it a try

I'm not saying that it's not a good game, I'm just saying that it doesn't appeal to me as much as it does to others, and due to the publicity it is always over-hyped, regardless of how good it is.
The Halo 3 campaign didn't appeal to me that much. Never got into it. And, of course, there's the opening to Halo 1. 'You'll need protection, MasterChief. Here, take this unloaded pistol.'

There's always going to be jerks on Xbox Live, and there's always going to be the occasional nice person. However, out of all the times I've played Halo online, the people I get along best with are the people that don't speak. Sure, you can mute them, but the point of voice chat is to have fun and talk about the game.
Without talking to eachother, I may as well be playing single player with bots who had some of their programming randomised. If you've got no friends to play online with, then I like to jump in and make new ones. I've never been able to do that with Halo.

That a plus-point, but I can think of other games that have this, too, which I'd rather play.

Not fully correct. If somebody else new were to have made Reach under a new name, it wouldn't sell half as much copies. I have a few friends, though I never seem to be online at the same time as them. Anyways, they tend to get annoyed at me getting annoyed at them getting annoyed at me getting annoyed at my lag. Which is perpetual.
